Tips for Voting Using Two Phones
10 Voting Tips for Double-Fisted Dialing Using Two Phones from Dynamatic2002 of the People�s Republic of Clay:
If you don�t have a cell phone but want to double-dial for Clay on finals night, Tracfone (www.tracfone.com) is having a special for a few more days. Through May 15, $25 + shipping brings a reconditioned Nokia 5100 series phone plus 60 minutes of airtime. No contracts. No set-up costs. Just $25. Additional airtime may be purchased at vendors such as K-Mart and etc.
1) Make sure your wireless provider is AT&T. For some reason, they have more phone lines dedicated to AI. (Prolly the product-placed reason.)
2) Remove all distractions. No Zaprudering. No posting. No chatting. Just you and your two phones for two hours. Find a comfortable chair and make sure all your needs are in front of you. (Drink with straw. Go to the bathroom during the second-to-last commercial break..more on this later.)
3) Use an earpiece in one ear. I try to turn the volume up on my landline and use the earpiece for the cell. That way you don't have to hold the landline up to your ear, just sort of near your head, or even totally away from your head if the phone is loud enough. Helps to cut down on crick neck and busy signal blaring in your ear for two hours.
4) Make sure you hold each phones in the hand that facilitates the fastest redial. I usually put my cell in my right hand and the land line in my left hand. I redial with my thumbs. It just depends where the redial button is on your landline.
5) On most cell phones, to redial, you hit the end call button, and then hit the call button twice.
6) You want to get into a rhythm. It takes concentration. (Hence removing distractions.) Hang up as soon as you hear "Thank you..." But after a few minutes, you'll get into the flow and it will become less awkward.
7) I find that you get in way more calls on the cell phone. Last week, I may have gotten 30-40 calls in on the land line, and probably 200-300 on the cell. If you have access to two cell phones, you might consider skipping the landline altogether.
8)As soon as you find out Clay's number, program it onto both phones, or just dial it once so you're ready to go.
9) At the last commercial break, begin dialing. (Here's why you don't go to the bathroom now.) Keep redialing, and at some point during that break, you will start to get through. This is a crucial time, because most people don't know the phone lines are open and you can get in a bunch of calls. This also goes for the end. The lines are usually open a few minutes past 11pm (or whenever the end of your two-hour window happens to be).
10) Don't stop until the bitter end. It's only two hours. (and 5 minutes, give or take) Do it for Claybee!!
