Chanukah Clay

The Meaning of the Chanukah Lights

Description of a Jewish Holiday--They attacked us; we won; lets eat! Chanukah is no different.

In about 164 BC the Jews were attacked by the Greeks. Their Holy Temple in Jerusalem was defiled and in shambles. The Jews cleansed the Temple and readied to re-dedicate it. When it came time to re-light the Menorah (the ritual candelabra), they searched the entire Temple, but found only one small jar of pure and blessed oil. Miraculously, once lit, the small jar of oil burned for eight days.

From then on, Jews have observed a holiday for eight days in honor of this historic victory and the miracle of the oil that gave light in time of need.

Today, the observance of Chanukah features the lighting of a Menorah with eight branches (plus a helper candle), starting with one candle and adding another candle each night. Other customs include spinning the dreydel (a top with Hebrew letters on the sides), eating foods prepared in oil like potato latkes (pancakes) and sufganiyot (jelly donuts), and giving Chanukah gelt (coins) to children. It is a celebration of the miracles of endurance, goodness, laughter and play.

Over the centuries, the candles have taken on meanings which reflect the important characteristics with which people withstand the troubles of daily life, and shine as examples of goodness and leadership to others.

As we Jewish Broads light the Chanukah candles this year we are reminded of the example Clay sets and the light he has brought to our Broadly lives, as well as so many others. We share the candles meanings with you as we share that Broadly love of Clay:

Day One represents The Light of a Supreme Being and warns of the darkness of idol worship.

Clay is always humble, self-effacing and not wrapped up in the trappings of being an American Idol.

Day Two represents The Light of Learning and Truth.

Clay has claimed one of his faults to be that he always corrects everyones use of proper English and wags his finger at cussing !

Day Three represents The Light of Justice - no nation of people can endure that which is unjust to the weak.

ENOUGH SAID!!

Day Four represents The Light of Mercy - cruelty hardens the heart and destroys friendship.

Clay refuses to compete with Ruben at the expense of keeping their friendship intact.

Day Five represents The Light of Holiness - purity of thought and nobility of action.

Clays purity of thought is reflected in his refusal to sing certain lyrics in his songs; his nobility is shown in his gracious response to negative feedback and the solace he gave to contestants when they were cut from the show.

Day Six represents The Light of love - Clay has so much love to give that we cant help but reflect that back to him.

The magnified effect of so many broads reflecting love back at Clay is Ding Dang Dazzling.

Day Seven represents The Light of Patience - nothing can be achieved in haste.

Stripper Clay gives it all to his Broads slow just like they likes it. (Now, you all knew we were getting around to the Lechery, didnt you?)

Day Eight represents The Light of Courage - Be strong and of good courage.

Clay stood strong in the face of the P**A onslaught. He rallies truth and justice to reveal itself and prevail, rather than fighting back in haste.

The Shaamus - This one candle kindles many others and yet loses none of its own light.

Clay Aiken shines the light of his example on all of us!
