Thanks for the Memories

(to the tune of "Thanks for the Memory",
from the film Big Broadcast of 1938,
made famous by Bob Hope and
lovingly rewritten by Julie)

Thanks for the memories
Of "splendor in the grass", the Broads drooling en masse

For wearing clingy slacks that showed
that apple of an ass
How lovely it was!

Thanks for the memories
Of waiting by the bus, you coming to see *us*

And never really getting why we're making such a fuss
How lovely that was!

Many's the time that we gifted
Many's the souls that you lifted
Oh well, we did kvell when you shifted
From rock to pop, oh God, don't stop...

And thanks for the memories
Of screaming till we're sore, of thong-pimping galore

You might have been a tease
but you could never be a bore
So thank you so much!

And thanks for the memories
Of sideburns copper-brown, of polishing my crown

The fantasy that one night you and I would "go to town"
How lovely that was!

Thanks for the memories
The beaming Moms and Dads, the swooning undergrads

And then those other people who can only see your 'nads
We thank you so much!

We said goodbye at the fences
We lost our assemblage of senses
But no need to call up defenses
We cried, we clawed, big whoop, were Broads!

So...thanks for the memories
And, strictly entre nous, my darlin' how are you?
And how's the preparations for your holiday debut?

I'm awfully glad I saw ya, honey (glad you saw me too!)

And thank you...so much.

-- Julie, with photo assemblage (my new favorite word) assistance by Cella (also for "apple of an ass") and Jill (the luckiest Broad in the whole dang world)...and thanks to Erin for a Broadly birthday card full of endless inspiration!
