A little bit country Yeah, I gotta say that last night's show was....shall we say....lacking. Once again, Corey Clark was just smarmy and execrable. Equally detestable as always was Julia, with her turgid, tinny and utterly predictable cover of a Faith Hill song. I don't know what it is about those two, but they've secured a place in my spleen previously reserved for Nikki McKibbin. It really got to the point where I was almost disappointed when Nikki finally got bumped, after weeks and weeks of hearing her caterwaul and subsequently watching the judges give her such gratuitous tongue-baths for being "the wild child of this competition." You know, there's just a part of me that deeply relishes being able to scream in indignation at the barely-talented-but-photogenic ones every Tuesday. So the rumor is that they pulled the theme switch to accomodate Josh, who -- you know -- might have to go to Iraq. May have more to do with the fact that they had Olivia there that week, because you know, before she donned her headband and buttfloss to sing "Physical," she was known to dabble in light country. At any rate, I was disappointed in Josh, and as my sister pointed out, "Dude, wasn't he flat on his first big yelp?" I thought Clay sort of mailed it in, yeah. Always terrific, always dreamy, but didn't make me squeal. He's in no danger of being cut any time soon, but as they weed out the dead weight and he's eventually neck-and-neck with Ruben, things are going to get interesting.
