Wizard of Oz AI Style: Chapter 5

Chapter Five

The Purple Brick Road finally leads the foursome out of the forest. They are standing at the top of a knoll, looking into a small valley with an impressive Emerald Castle on the far side.

"WOW," they say in unison and giggle.

As they stare, mesmerized by the scenery, Clay notices Randy, the Good Judge of the North, at his side.

"Randy!"

"Amazing isn't it, Dawg. You're doing your thing now, ain't ya' Dawg!"

"Hey, Randydid you bring any of those gorgeous MunchkinBroads with you?"

"Actually, Dude, that castle is the getaway of the MunchkinBroads and the home of the Wizard of Oz. They're all Princesses or Goddesses or something, Dawg, so they knew they needed a castle. They insisted it be Emerald greensomething about two endless pools of sparkling emeralds and optical fornication. I don't know, Dawg, they had the blenders goin'so the castle is like a little spa. Rest up, the MunchkinBroads will take good care of you."

And so the foursome starts for the Emerald Castle for some R and R before their meeting with the Wizard. As soon as they reach the entrance the intricately carved doors spring open and little hands lead them to their spa treatments. Carmen, Kim, and Ruben are all ready hours before Clay emerges. He wears black leather pants and an ice blue sweater. His hair is natural and fluffy and he has a slight 5 o'clock shadow. Kim has on an ivory ensemble, Ruben wears a black suit, and Carmen is dressed as Heidi.

"Carmen, what is up, Baby?" asks Ruben.

"I started singing and next thing I know"

Meanwhile, in a dark stone office miles away, Sl**on, the Wicked Judge of the West, sits fuming about the Red Diesels.

"I will have those shoesI will. Bloody Randy "I was in Journey", always interfering. And those Broadsthat's OK. I have something they want" he says smiling and caressing the crystal prism that is perched on his desk.

After resting in the MunchkinBroads spa, Clay and his friends are ready to meet the Wizard. They link arms and cautiously proceed down the long vaulted hallway, which leads to the inner sanctum. As they enter the throne room ringing bells and flashing lights startle them. Showgirls are spinning around wearing huge feather headpieces. The Wizard is a frightening, floating head, which bears a striking resemblance to Elvis.

"Come forward. I am Oz, the great and powerful." The voice is strangely high-pitched and soft. "Who are you?"

Clay steps forward.

"I am Clay and these are my friends: Kim, Ruben, and Carmen. We all need the help of the great OZ."

"Well, nothing is free. First, you must all sing for me."

"Oh God, not again."

Clay starts by reverently lowering his head and delivering a haunting version of "Solitaire." And then, just for good luck, he begins shakin' his thang and singing 'Build Me Up Buttercup.' When he finishes the Wizard looks like he may be tearing up. Next is Kim, who belts out 'Band of Gold.'

"Oh crap," whispers Clay. "Ruben just try to sing something slow and Carmen, well, everyone look out for the goats."

Ruben tries very hard, but still can only manage some mangled rap song and CarmenCarmen bleats "And So It Goes."

"Well, that certainly wasn't the most impressive ensemble I've ever heard. I believe you'll have to complete a mission to prove you are worthy of the great Wizard's help. I want you to bring me the prized possession of Sl**on, the Wicked Judge of the West. He stole an AMA Fan Choice Award and keeps it in the office of his dungeon. Bring me the award and you can each have your wish. The Great Oz has spoken." And in a great flash of neon, multi-colored bulbs, feathers, and glitter, the Wizard disappears.

The foursome walks outside into the sunlight and begins to form their planthey must get the awardthey must defeat Sl**on.
