Odin's Guide to Posting Pictures

Odin at computer

Now that Freckles, with the help of her Trampy servant, has set up the wonderful LBFCA Photo Guestbook, many of you are wondering just how to post photos in it.

Say, for example, you found a great picture online of Clay's *ss.

Now, you know that Katynka has just got to see that. You also know that if you don't show it to her and she finds out, she will unleash the dreaded Puss on you. Since you value your life, you want to avoid the wrath of Puss at all costs and get Kat that *ss.

One choice is to post a link to the picture in the purple pages. You learned how to do this in my Guide to HTML. Clicking on that link will probably pacify Kat enough to keep you safe.

But if you want to actually SHOW your picture, let Kat see the full glory of the *ss, you can post the picture in the Photo Guestbook.

Here's how:

First, the picture must be online somewhere. Just having it on your own computer will not work.

Say, for example, you found a smashing picture like this one online.

(My, isn't he a handsome fellow! And what a jaunty chapeau!)

While it might seem easiest to link directly to their picture, it is good netiquette to put the pictures on your own space rather than to use up the other person's bandwidth. As the numbers in ClayNation increase, this becomes more and more of an issue. If you have web space of your own (many internet providers give some web space to their clients, so you might want to check that), you can load them up on your space according to their directions.

If you don't have web space, there are some photo services for sharing photos. Two that I've seen used are Shutterfly and PhotoBucket. I'm sure there are more. Most have free registration. You might try one of these. The one thing to remember, though, is that you want one that anyone can view without a password or the link won't work.

Now, go to the Photo Guestbook. Type your message, and then, where you want the photo to appear, type the following code:

(This is the URL for the picture above. You of course would use the URL for your picture.)

If you notice, it looks very much like the code you use to link to an image, except you replace "a href" with "img src" (which, by the way, means "image source," if that helps you remember). You're probably better off typing the code directly into the photo guestbook so you can avoid that nasty quotation mark problem I described in the Guide to HTML.

It also is usually a good idea to put a paragraph break before and after the picture so that the text doesn't wrap around the photo. You remember how to make paragraph breaks, don't you? If not, you'd better sign up for the remedial HTML tutorials along with Nelle.

I hope that helps. If these directions don't work, or if you have tips I think you should add, send them to my secretary, Katynka, and she'll see that the changes get made. (A famous celebrity like me really can't be bothered with little things like revisions.)
