Tie Me Up, Tie Me Down, Part 4:
What Has Clay Done for Me Lately?

In August I confessed my obsession with Clay Aiken's ties, in a three-part series.

How does Clay Aiken respond?

Well, at first, seemingly not at all....he didn't even wear a tie when I saw him at the Pueblo and Albuquerque concerts.

Now, normally I would suggest when one is carrying on a mad passionate affair in one's mind, with someone who does not know one, that one should not let little slights like clothing choices be taken as a sign of lack of reciprocal feelings. And, I would certainly suggest one not consider such a slight as grounds for a bit of a lovers spat. But, then one wouldn't have the copious tie appearances from the end of September through December to be savored as Make Up Ties ;-)

Besides, there's nothing really 'normal' about any of this, is there?!

Before I pick up where I left off... thanks to the talented Invisible926 of wallpaper fame, it came to my attention recently that I neglected one of Clay's ties in my earlier series:

Thanks, too, to clayphotos.com, for sharing these TV Guide photoshoot pix...I think I'll call this tie Grey Fox.

Now, back to the Saga of Clay Aiken's Ties since August. On September 18, Clay again wore his Cap4 Patriot Tie to sing at the Miss America Pageant.

On September 30, Clay appeared at the Aladdin Special Edition DVD Premiere in a new red tie I named Aladdin Red:

LBFCA first featured Aladdin Red Tie in our Burberry MP. Then, showed more of the Aladdin Premiere photos in our Prince Clay EEE!!! page.

We didn't know then how much we would soon be seeing that particular tie.

But first, Clay had old business to finish...in October Clay completed his Summer Tour in North Carolina, and I'd like to give credit to his Blazing Red Tie for all it did during those three final shows. That hardworking tie brought IT for all of it's performances. It helped Clay...

Sway to the music:

Lean on the stairs for IWCY:

Glow in the stage lights:

Have a hearty laugh:

Then, rock out for Signed Sealed and Delivered:

Except for those NC shows, Clay didn't show us much from his tie cache in October. But near the end of the month news broke that an Xmas Ornament would be available at Giant Merchandising, and the photo was of Clay in his Aladdin Red Tie:

Then, Clay really delivered the goods to all of the enthusiastic fans of Clay Aiken's ties in the fandom (yea, all two of us...wait, who is the other one?), by wearing about a gazillion new ties between November and January!

On November 14th Clay appeared at the American Music Awards, in his trendy retro pinstripe suit and Multiple-Striped AMAs Tie:

I quickly claimed this tie as another LBFCA Shout Out. (If you see it in the right light, and have your Crown of Delusion tilted at just the right angle, you will see purple thereoh, heck, just the multiples are prolly a shout out to us ;-)

News had leaked of Clay's upcoming televised Christmas special being released on DVD, and on November 15 a cover photo appeared at Amazon, again showing Clay in the Aladdin Red Tie:

ahem Nice profile!

Just a few days later, Clay appeared at The BAF Voices for Change Gala in LA, looking golden in a pale purpley shirt and Golden Tie with shiny Twister Dots.

I would definitely like to see more of this tie.

Next up, Merry Christmas With Love and Learning to Sing hit the stores, and Clay got sick. The focus was not on Clay and his neck ties, but on Clay and his golden throat healing from illness.

After a bit of delay, Clay's Joyful Noise Tour began, and the Merry Ties of Christmas began to appear!

Confirming his ardent love for LBFCA, Clay wore a new Purple Tie opening night:

I call this one, JNT Purple

But, JNT Purple was not the only tie that showed up opening night...the Sex Manual IV JNT Tour Book, had a bunch of new photos of Clay in Aladdin Red!

My favorite of the Aladdin Tie pix from the JNT Tour showed up on the keychain and bookmark:

*sigh* Wish I had a bigger picture of THAT!

But, back to Clay's other ties...he wore another new Purple Tie at the second show of the tour!

I call this one JNT Purple Stripe

In Sewell, Clay wore yet another Purple Tie (sometimes his loving shout outs can be downright embarrassing!):

I call this one JNT Purple Spots

But, the Purples were not the only new ties Clay wore for the Joyful Noise tour, let alone the holiday season!

Clay rolled out a lovely JNT Red:

That featured a diamond pattern reminiscent of Light Purple from the ai2 ClayLive Summer Concert Tour of 2003:

Those first few shows of the tour were the only times we got to see the full length of the colorful JNT Ties. Here's a full length pic of JNT Red in Salt Lake City:

As the tour progressed, it became apparent that Clay still had a few Tie Tricks up his sleeve.

There was an elusive JNT Green, that was first seen only in brief blurry glimpses:

Not that there's anything wrong with getting a brief blurry glimpse of that profile. GAH!

There was a minor controversy among the PP Broads (ok, and the Bad Gurrls of the Photo GB, too) regarding whether that tie was green striped, as I contended, or was it looking green in the stage lights, but was really Clay's tie from the AMAs. I'm stubborn when it comes to identifying Clay's ties, so I did a little photo comparison:

I think as we got better photos of JNT Green, the controversy ended:

Then, on December 8, Clay evoked gasps from the audience when he walked onstage in this outfit:

Oops! That's not a tie pic!

No, I meant, for the rest of the tour, Clay finished the second half of each show dressed like this:

That JNT Silver Tie really shone for the rest of the tour:

Yes, I believe the JNT Silver Tie converted more than a few fans to the TieLove I've so long enjoyed:

The appearance of the JNT Silver Tie also brought the end to the ties during Good News. For the rest of the tour, Clay performed his encore with an austere black shirt, proving once again, that he don't need no tie to make him gorgeous:

sigh

But, the concert tour was not the only place Clay showed us his new neckwear during the holidays. He donned new ties for a couple of his TV appearances while promoting MCWL.

First up was Leno, on December 6. While the fandom was waiting impatiently for the show to air, news came from fans at the taping about Clay's clothes and performance. As I recall, his performance of MDYK earned rave reviews from fans on the scene. His interview performance was also gushed about as being cute and funny and surprising. But, his clothes were getting mixed reviews, even mind-boggling reviews.

Clay was reported to be wearing "brown plaid pants, a light blue shirt, a red tie, and a denim jacket with dark trim, and a "funky" beige belt."

Huh?

Then, another report had him "wearing tan plaid pants with a blue shirt and a red and something tie that was pretty and not a jean jacket but something casual and a white belt."

Well, at least the tie was described as pretty.

Then another report said, "there was a white belt; and his shirt was "robin's egg blue" and quite nice; there was a denim jacket with noticeable stitching (but not, I was assured, anything like Captain Kangaroos denim Big Stitch jacket); and he wore a festive, multi-colored, possibly plaid tie."

Hmmmm...ok, I was not too sure about the rest of this outfit, but the new tie continues to get positive marks!

Yet another report showed up, describing the clothes as "Clay is wearing tan shoes and beige pants with big white checks. (He makes fun of the pants himself.) One saving grace for the pants---they are tight--nice buns says Jammin. Powder blue shirt with a red, green and blue plaid tie. Our man likes his colors. Oh, and a big white belt."

Well, at least I was going to see him in a new tie and tight pants!

Finally, some creative fan from OMC (I never did find out who, sorry) made a picture of the outfit based upon these mixed reports:

Fortunately, a screen cap of Clay on the Leno promo emerged soon, and his outfit was proven to be not that bad. Then, the show aired, and Clay looked as yummy as ever, no matter whether his wardrobe was popular.

Clay showed us that his smile has always been his best accessory:

The coloring on this tie reminds me of watercolors, so I've decided to call this the Watercolor Plaid Tie:

Next, Clay appeared on The Today Show, in his recent AMAs pumpkin-colored shirt and another lovely tie. First, he talked to Matt Lauer about ACAC, MCWL and the JNT:

The colors are reminiscent of the tie Clay had just worn on Leno, so I'm calling this Watercolor Striped Tie.

I want to point out that one does not need to see the full measure of a tie to appreciate the impact it can provide:

Then Clay serenaded an absent Katie Couric with her requested Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas. The Broads happily stood in for her to receive this:

Also early in December, several Clay-related items were up for charitable auction on ebay, including this impressive package:

Naturally, I followed the bidding closely, and after 10 days, it finally sold for $2600:

Special wishes that 4192spooky is taking good care of that treasure from the Summer Tour.

After the holidays, Clay Nation settled in for the Great Tie Drought of 2005. Uhhh, I mean the Clack Drought.

Ever responsive to the needs of his longing minions fans, Clay appeared on TV on Valentine's Day, with a sweet reminder of the goodness of seeing and hearing him.

For the Jimmy Kimmel Show, Clay wore his Twister Dots on his shirt, and reserved the tie for some nice stripes:

I think Im calling this tie Olive Striped:

Of course, the fact that Clay wore a new tie for Valentines Day made me happier than a kitten chasin a leaky cow!

But, Olive Striped was not the only tie that we saw Clay wear on that show. The music video clip of Clay and Jimmys rendition of Reunited brought a reminder of the November AMAs promotional commercials:

Which sparked my memory that for those promos, Clay wore his Disney Hands tie:

After Kimmel, and the tie-less appearance on Scrubs, Clay disappeared again. But, he had philanthropic work to do in Hawaii a bit ago, and fortunately he took his ties along with him to paradise.

The singing Clack showed up first, and I was thrilled to see Clay wore his AMAs Multiple Striped tie again!

If theres any doubtheres a pic of that tie full length from November:

(awwww, hugs to Nick for wearing the Purple!)

Egad, I love this tie with the black shirt:

The BAF Speech Clack emerged soon, and darn if Clay didnt wear another Purple Tie:

Its difficult to tell from these pix, but I suspect that might be the JNT Purple Tie.

He really went a little wild in Hawaii, neckwear-wise!

Fans enjoyed partying with an image of Clay in Hawaii, and I guess there are more tie lovers out there than I thought...this guy attracted a crowd of ladies:

note: a slightly blurry cap was chosen for display here, to protect the innocent, and not so innocent ;-)

Then, Clay appeared at the Pacific Rim Conference on Disabilities, and while the reports were glowing, I really couldnt see the tie well in the photosat first I thought it might be Olive Striped from Kimmel:

Then, a much clearer photo surfaced, making it clear Clay was wearing a yellow and blue striped tie:

Well, well, wellisnt that interesting? That tie looks mighty familiar. For a moment, I thought it was that Shy Gold Striped Tie we saw so much of last year:

But, the more I studied the various pix, based upon limited photos from the Pacific Rim Conference, and with the generous assistance of Katynka and Surf4sue, I decided that tie was Clays 2003 AMAs tie:

Now, Im still wondering if those (Shy Gold Striped and 2003 AMAs) have been the same tie all along, and it just looks more yellow in some pix, and more gold in others.

Then, a day later, a photo taken in sunlight appeared, and it looks like the Pac Rim Conference Tie has yellow, blue, white and grey stripes:

Oh well, I thought I was ending this page with a little mystery, and now it appears to be solved. See what fun it is to research Clay's ties?

This brings us up to date on my beloved Clay Aiken Tie saga. I hope Clay brings me much much more to ponder and study in the near future. I'm always pleased to have another opportunity to look closely at many images of Clay's *cough*faceandneckandshouldersandchestandtorso*cough* Ties.

Nelle

Many thanks to the procurers and sharers of fine Tie Clack...
